Our Story

St. George in the Pines Anglican Church, established in 1889, stands as a beacon of hope, exclusively rooted in the life death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ. From its humble origins as a small log building, this sacred space has expanded and evolved while remaining deeply connected to Banff's spiritual fabric. Beyond its historical significance, the church embodies a sanctuary where hope blossoms, drawing from the teachings and love of Jesus. It welcomes all—locals and visitors alike—to discover a profound sense of hope, faith, and renewal, found exclusively through the timeless wisdom and grace of Jesus Christ. As an enduring symbol of spiritual resilience, St. George in the Pines continues to nurture a community where the transformative power of hope in Christ thrives.

What we believe

At St. George's, our faith journey roots itself in history. We find our footing in the foundational teachings outlined by early Church councils—the Apostles and Nicene Creeds—for over 1500 years. As an Anglican Church, we cherish our heritage from the English Reformation, seeking a path grounded in Scripture and the empowering message of grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Our Anglican identity, reflected in the Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion, joins a global community of Christians, and our unique ethos is summarized in the Chicago-Lambeth Quadrilateral.
