Jesus On VacationPastoral Note from Rev. Howard Thornton In this week’s Gospel we read that Jesus went to the districts of Tyre and Sidon. To us, they are merely names of obscure places in the Bible; but in Scripture, location is important. This is the only occasion in his ministry when Jesus was ever outside of Palestine and outside of Jewish territory. If you look up Tyre and Sidon on a map of the world at the time of Jesus, you will discover that they are beautiful locations on the Mediterranean Sea. ... For more infomation visit:

WHAT WE'RE READING, LISTENING TO, AND WATCHINGEdifying content that has deeply informed our work this season - Prologue to an Anti-Therapeutic, Anti-Affirmation Movement is a piercing essay by Freddie deBoer on corrosive effect that pop psychology can have on our lives and offers an insight as to how to navigate disapointment in our modern age. - How Christianity Is Different From Every Religion is a short clip of a lecture given by Dr. John Lennox on the uniqueness of the Christian faith. - Tim Keller Memorial Sermon: ‘Jesus Came to Serve and Die’ is a powerful sermon delivered by Sam Allberry as the Christian community around the world celebrated the life of Pastor Tim Keller - Christian Human Rights is an excellent book by Samuel Moyn, professor of law and history at Yale University, that traces the origin of modern human rights anchored in the dignity of human beings born from Christian theology and faith. - Beware the god of Open Options is a thoughtful reflection on the nature of comittment in an honest faith. - Difference: Be Prestent is a short but meaninful video by Archbishop Justin Welby on the spiritual practice of being present. |

Peace in the Midst of the StormSunday, August 13, 2023 Often the fear that drowns us is the concern over being accepted by a world that rejects Jesus. In 'Peace in the Midst of the Storm' Rev. Seth reminds us that no matter what storm we face, Jesus is there with us to rescue us when we feel we're sinking. We are not called to fear but to rest our hearts and souls in Jesus, the one who can calm any storm.
